Migration

Today Ms.Maude talked about her knowing of the Maori history of finding New Zealand. So according to Ms.Maude she started the story of Kupe. Well she says the he lived in hawaii and was chasing a octopus he went around all the pacific islands and then he found the North Island. He said" I am going to bring my people here." So he told the chiefs and off they went. They named the boats as Aotea, Tearawa, Tokomoru, Tainui, Kurahaupo, Takitimu and Mataatua. As Kupe went to the North Island he named it Aotearoa. She also said that Tainui was a part of the Tearawa boat the navigator had gone on the Tainui boat so the Tearawa boat had no navigator and asked Ngatoroirangi to navigate them. As Ngatoroirangi was going around Aotearoa naming different parts of the island. When they settled down the parents would cook and do all the other important things. The grandperants would tell stores, songs and how to make tools but the most important thing was "HISTORY."
