Fire Drill

Walht: Write and explanation

Why is there a need for a fire drill/safety?

Why do we have a fire drill? If there is a real fire people need to know what to do to save their lives. You only know this if you practise regularly. You and your classmates could be in danger so knowing what to do can help you stay calm.

When the fire alarm goes everyone has to know not to take anything with them. You have to know where the best exit is because you need to get out quickly and it’s important not to all use the same exit. Running through people can cause accidents and it can be really dangerous. Practice helps you to follow the teachers without screaming, running and freaking out.

Schools and homes should always have an assembly point. Teachers check if everyone is safely out of the building. If there is a fire alarm at home parents can check on their family. Everyone should know to ring 111 but make sure first to get out of the house and somewhere safe. Practising regularly can help remember these things. It’s really important not to get too dramatic because it can scare everyone.

Having a fire drill is also a chance to check that all the equipment is working. It’s important to check the bells to see if the batteries are working and that no one has vandalised them.

At home it’s a chance to check space heaters, candles and fire from the fireplace. When having a practice you can hear, touch and see things that are not working like the alarms and the hose.

Fires are really dangerous and people can die. Practising fire drills regularly reminds people how to behave and to check the equipment is working. Practice makes perfect!

I was reading your explanation about the fire drill.
My favourite part about this explanation is when you put interesting words to match the sentence. My favourite paragraph is the last one.
